    Above Base Potential: 1% above base pay up to 10% for prior experience.
  • Overview

    Highly responsible professional and technical work involving daily support and maintenance for various PC computer systems within the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.  Work includes the evaluation and installation of new hardware and software, the maintenance of existing equipment and programs, performing maintenance on various systems for security, provide training for employees, and the troubleshooting of both PC hardware and software problems.

    An employee in this position works under the direct supervision of the ITB Director and is evaluated through meetings, observation, results obtained, and appropriate employee performance appraisals.



    • On call in a rotating schedule in case of PC-related emergencies
    • May be required to work or travel outside of office hours.


    • A+ and/or MCSE certifications is preferred.
    • CJIS Certification required after hire.


    • Extensive knowledge of PC installation, functions, hardware, and software.
    • Good working knowledge of cellular telephony devices
    • Good working knowledge of peripherals (printers, modems, etc.)
    • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of modern data processing.
    • Skill in diagnosing/correcting a variety of PC hardware and software operating functions.
    • Ability to gather and analyze information, apply it to the computer system(s) involved, and evaluate the outcome.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to train others in the use of available computer programs.
    • Ability to prioritize projects, manage time effectively, and work independently.
    • Ability to lift and carry PCs and other hardware to difficult sites.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees, the ACSO administration, co-workers, and the general public.



    • Associate's Degree required.
    • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
      *Preferred Major(s): Computer Science, Data Processing, or other related field.


    • Two (2) or more years of experience managing and maintaining personal computers in an office environment.
    • Hardware and software experience (including Windows and the Microsoft Office Suite applications) required, including the installation of programs and peripherals.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or related certification in Microsoft (A+ and/or MCSE)may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
    • Four (4) or more years of experience managing and maintaining personal computers may substitute for an Associate’s Degree.
    • Any combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
